She shivered slightly as she looked up at the lamp lit window nearly two floors above where she stood in the streets, water dripping from her soaking hair and blinding her momentarily as it fell heavily from the sky. Did he even miss her? She felt a lump forming in her throat, “No.” She said firmly even as her resolve crumbled and she began to sob, “I don't want to cry anymore.”

Her voice was rough and tired from crying, hardly even heard as her words were blown away with the wind. She turned from his window and continued walking down the street. The rain that poured down heavily masked her tears. She just wanted it all to end, sorrow laced her spirit. She had loved him so much- and still did for that matter. Her feet dragged through deep puddles, soaked through even the tough leather of her tennis shoes.

She thought of him so very often- nearly every day, and each time the heartbreak and pain only heightened. She could hardly even remember the last time that they had been together. His embrace had been so comforting, it was so easy to forget herself when she looked into those deep pools of emerald green.

The girl began to run then, her ebony locks swaying to and fro, caught in the wind's fury. She just wanted to forget, why was it all so hard? Why did love have to be so very painful? She cried out as her foot caught and she fell into the street, a car swerved to avoid hitting her. Immediately the vehicle stopped and he climbed out. “Amara?” He asked incredulously before his gaze hardened, “what do you think you're doing?”

She stood and rubbed her scraped hands down the front of her dark jacket. “I'm s-sorry, Michiru.” She said softly before turning and running as quickly as she could to get away from him.

Her heart swelled, nearly bursting in her chest from the agony of seeing him again, that look of anger blazing in his beautiful eyes. Please forgive me. She sobbed inwardly, forgive me for still loving you so much, Michiru.

She barely even noticed as her feet led her into an alley and as they, as well as her hands, pulled her up several ladders until she stood upon a rain soaked rooftop. She looked over the side, her amber eyes rimmed with red. Her dark tresses hung limply over her shoulders, apparently gazing, themselves, upon the busy streets below.

A small smile crossed Amara's lips as she leaned over the edge. Everyone was so happy, nobody cared about her problems. Her heart clenched painfully and Amara had to suck in a shallow breath, nearly falling back onto the rooftop. I'm forgetting you, Michiru. I've nearly forgotten your embrace, how warm and comforting it always was. You're fading even as the rain fades from the world. Why must this hurt so very much? She leaned farther over the edge, so that it was only her hands that kept her anchored to the roof. Can it really end so easily?

“Amara!” Michiru was somewhere below, probably worried that she would be angry about his nearly hitting her.

Amara allowed her smile to fade and the tears to run faster. You're still in my heart, Michiru, and always will be. With that thought she released her grip upon the ledge and fell into the street below, the rain washing away the pool of crimson that arced out from her body like wings. She dimly heard Michiru's exclamation of shock and terror. “Amara!” She was in his arms almost immediately, it was already too late, “No, please!” He cried out.

“Mi-Michiru.” The blood had fully drained from her face and she gazed at him adoringly, “Forgive me, don't be angry.”

“How could I be angry with you?” Her eyes began to drift shut, a content smile resting upon her face, “No, stay with me!”

“I love you.” she murmured tiredly, “you're still in my heart. This rain will never wash away my love for you.”

“I-I love you too.” He sobbed, resting his head upon her broken body, with those words her eyes finally drifted shut and Amara died, resting in the arms of her lover.

Song: Klaha: Stay in the Rain (English translation)

rain
The rainy street, I am walking alone
still rain
My voice, rough and tired from crying, like a mumble,
tries to follow along with the song
that you were always singing to yourself, but...
stay in the rain
The more I think of you
You keep fading into the sound of the strongly pounding rain
your warmth, so dear to me...
Seems so forgotten
with the pain
rain
Those days that we saw together, smiling,
Are already a memory
still rain
The kindness that slipped through the palm of my hands;
No matter where I try to look for it,
No matter where I am,
I am in pain; I just want to run away
stay in the rain
The more I think of you
Only a love that is strongly bound with apprehension
flows now in my heart...
I seem so broken
with the pain
The endless rain
inside of me, it sinks deeply into my heart...
stay in the rain
The more I think of you
You keep fading into the sound of the strongly pounding rain
your warmth, so dear to me...
Seems so forgotten
with the pain
you're still in my heart...in the rain

After writing this I realized that it reminded me of Amara and Michelle's relationship (from Sailor Moon) How they were willing to sacrifice everything if they couldn't be together.

2006-06-02 iippo: A moving piece, very fluttery, like a moment-in-a-butterfly's-time :)
One thing caught my attention: all of the colours are described with words like "emerald" and "crimson" etc... I thought it was quite strange at times, those words are sort of glorified versions of colour, yet the theme of the story is quite... unglorious. o.O It really caught my attention, to the point of being odd.
But good work, keep going :)
